One thing I will say is, whether the hotel includes breakfast in its rate or you have to pay extra for it, it’s a great way to have a nice communal moment with the other hotel guests. One of my articles is on food and the options for solo travelers to eat, and this is at the top of the list.
Thanks for sharing your experience! It's also a great reminder that the same experience/moment can be meaningful in different ways, depending on the type of guest (family, couple, solo...).
Interesting. This is the second article I have read today about the use of Google maps, satellite and street view.
As a solo traveler, it cannot be overemphasized how important reviewing the area where you plan to stay is. This map technology is a great way to have a look at what your walk might be like and the neighborhood of your accommodation.
And yes, actually reading the full description of hotels and looking them up is a great way to improve the satisfaction of your experience.
Getting to know the staff can make all the difference.
Thanks for reading and sharing your thoughts! And you're right, a satellite view can be used to check if the surroundings of the hotel look safe, too (e.g. when it's dark in the evening).

That picture of the breakfast food with the palm trees in the background is perfection!
